A little t/l of the build site for RBCC.

Can’t say anything was ideal, but it’s nice to see the shadows move.

Arduino mega with a chopped up stereo cable and a/c tap to fire the camera on intervals without a computer.  Adding linear potentiometer calibrated to sketch, to change intervals.  Canon charges $210.00 MSRP for one of those.  Cost me about $20 to make.

UPDATE [07.17.2011] - Better. Faster. Stronger. Cheaper.

I’ve been spending a lot of time @ Alpha One Labs lately.  One of the projects we’ve been working on is a Persistence Of Vision (POV) “hologram” machine for the Red Bull Challenge.  I arrived a bit late to help with the fabrication of the prototype, but I’ve started creating some animation templates that will be configured to play back a cross-section frame sequence that the POV machine’s motor will be attenuated to match, with the idea being that a 3D shape, or even, perhaps, a 3D animation (if I can wrap my head around the math involved) will appear inside the volume that the screen sweeps across.

Fun stuff.  Check out Alpha One Labs if you haven’t yet.  They’re in Greenpoint now!
